The invention relates to a device having the features of the introductory part of independent claim 1. Such devices are known. The problem with the known device is that the chains equipped with clamping jaws are driven via the deflection wheels. This results in unfavorable mechanical conditions. The invention has for its object to provide an improved device of the type mentioned ("jaw trigger"). This object is achieved according to the invention with a device having the features of claim 1. Preferred and advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject matter of the subclaims. In the invention, since the drive for the chains equipped with clamping jaws acts directly on the chains, it allows more favorable lever ratios and better synchronization of the two chains of the jaw trigger. In particular, it can be provided in the context of the invention that for the drive at least one chain, in particular a chain in the form of a roller chain, is provided, which is coupled to the chains which are equipped with clamping jaws. The coupling may, in one embodiment, be provided by toothed rails fastened to the chain links supporting the jaws, in which the chain of the drive engages. For driving the chains equipped with the jaws, each chain equipped with jaws can be provided with a separate drive in the form of a chain, e.g. a roller chain, be assigned. The chains formed drives of the chains equipped with the jaws can be synchronized with each other in any desired manner. Thus it can be provided that the drives are synchronized with each other by an electric shaft. In one embodiment of the invention it is provided that a common drive is provided for both chains equipped with clamping jaws, so that an absolute synchronization is provided. In one embodiment of the invention, the jawed chains drive a common chain, e.g. a two- or mehrläufige roller chain, assigned.
